04/03/2010 - Efficiency Grants Up For Grabs
Tees Valley-based businesses are able to bid for funding from a new £5 million efficiency initiative.
Energy Efficiency Grants are being offered by regional development agency One North East as part of their wider Tees Valley Industrial Programme.
The fund is aimed at helping local firms improve efficiency by investing in technologies and energy management systems that lead to “significant” energy consumption reductions and cost savings.
Grants are on offer to businesses based in the five counties that make up the Tees Valley:
- Hartlepool.
- Middlesbrough.
- Darlington.
- Redcar and Cleveland.
- Stockton-on-Tees.
Applicants will need to demonstrate:
- How the project will lead to a significant reduction in energy use and result in significant cost savings.
- The project's potential to contribute to the value of the regional energy efficiency and low carbon supply chain.
- That the project will help to accelerate the development of low carbon energy efficient technologies and processes.
The grants are being funded as part of the Tees Valley Industrial Programme, a £60 million investment over the next two years aimed at helping the area shift from heavy industry towards more advanced and low carbon manufacturing.
It includes £3.8 million towards apprenticeships and assistance for workers facing redundancy from the local Corus plant, as well as a £1.4m package of support to boost business start-up rates.
