30/04/2012 - £10 Million Invest in Innovative Refurb Competition Open to Applications (UK)
Last year the Government announced that £35 million of innovation funding would become available to support the development and demonstration of innovative technologies and systems that can reduce carbon emissions from buildings.
Of this £35 million, £10 million has now been allocated to a competition to reduce the risk and cost of innovative technologies or processes which can demonstrate significant energy and carbon savings in non domestic buildings.
The Invest in Innovative Refurb Competition aims to demonstrate a greater range of options and the value proposition of undertaking energy efficient refurbishments.
The programme has an overall budget of £10 million and it will operate in two tranches; each with a design and demonstration phase and each offering £5 million. Individual funding allocations per supported project have yet to be confirmed.
The competition will support the assessment of innovative products, which could potentially be certified under regulated assessment frameworks for inclusion under the Green Deal. Applicants will be challenged with introducing a product or a holistic group of products and system improvements. This can be delivered either as a major stand alone trial, or as part of a refurbishment project/programme.
Building owners or occupiers working with suppliers and specifiers in the UK may apply. Collaboration between building owners, tenants and innovative technology providers will be encouraged.
Tranche One is now open to applications and has a deadline for registrations of 6 June 2012 and a deadline for full applications of 13 June 2012.
